Sergei Perelygin and Lindsay Webster were declared 2022 Spartan World Champions, after they mastered an all-new course in the Al Wathba desert to beat the most skilled obstacle course racing athletes from across the globe. Taking place at Al Wathba Luxury Collection Resort & Spa and organized in partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Spartan, the event saw a host of international athletes from more than 80 countries battle it out for the men’s and women’s individual World Championship Super vying for more than US$125,000 in prize money – this is only the second time in history when this event has taken place outside the United States.

A number of challenging obstacles were conquered by elite athletes from both categories on the first day of the festival, including A-Frame Cargo, Atlas Carry, and Ape Hanger. After finishing the 10km race in 1 hour 3 minutes and 47 seconds, Sergei Perelygin won the Men’s Elite 2022 World Championship title. He finished second in last year’s race. Ryan Atkins, who achieved a time of 1 hour 3 minutes and 59 seconds, was beaten by Perelygin by 0.12 of a second. The women’s category saw Canadian Lindsay Webster win with a time of 1 hour 12 minutes and 49 seconds. This was her fourth Spartan World Championship title. Slovakian and European Spartan Champion, Ezster Hortobàgyiovà came in second with a time of 1 hour 14 minutes and 52 seconds.
